‘Famous’ Wolf Is Killed Outside Yellowstone

Editor's note: While biologically the loss of one wolf isn't significant in the big picture, this is heart-breaking news for the thousands of people who've come to know this wolf through their camera lenses. In the 17-year history of wolf reintroduction, only two other wolves — Nos. 21 and 302 — have garnered as much attention as 06, so named because of the year she was born.
Yellowstone National Park’s best-known wolf, beloved by many tourists and valued by scientists who tracked its movements, was shot and killed on Thursday outside the park’s boundaries, Wyoming wildlife officials reported.
