POPLAR — Two bison recently transplanted from the Yellowstone Park herd to the Fort Peck Indian Reservation died as a result of a two-day prairie fire north of Wolf Point and Poplar.
The 13,000-acre Brookman fire, fanned by wind gusts Tuesday and Wednesday, was about 50 percent contained Wednesday evening, said Steve Harada, the fire’s incident commander and member of the Wolf Point Volunteer Fire Department.
The cause of the blaze is still under investigation, but officials are certain it wasn’t caused by farm or ranch equipment, Harada said.
